How expert reference swings are matched

Comparing your swing to a single named professional's swing sounds appealing but is usually the wrong comparison — a 6'5" player's swing plane and a 5'6" player's swing plane differ for reasons that have nothing to do with technique quality.

Golf instead maintains a library of expert reference swings organized by club and shot type — driver, mid-iron, wedge, each with a stock full swing and a few common shot shapes — rather than by individual player. When you upload a swing, it's matched to the reference set for the same club and intended shot.

This keeps the comparison meaningful: a driver swing is compared to other driver swings, not to a wedge swing that naturally has a steeper plane and shorter follow-through for entirely legitimate reasons unrelated to your technique.
